For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore, I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Deuteronomy 15:11)

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18)

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’(Acts 20:35)

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. (Proverbs 19:17)

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? (Isaiah 58:6-7)

Accountability Partner

Trisha Sebastian with Dgroup Leader Wenna Mabilangan | Accountability Partner
Trisha Sebastian with Dgroup Leader Wenna Mabilangan

Thank you God for giving me spiritual leaders who have a heart for you. Please continue to bless them spiritually, emotionally, physically as well as financially so that they may continue to bless others by leading people to you.

In my Quiet Time today God had shown me how important it is to have an accountability partner who loves God enough to speak the truth in love to me so that I could always be aligned to God's will.

Someone who is a person after God's own heart so that they would not have any selfish motives in giving advice to me.

Sometimes we try to avoid arguments to try to keep the peace in friendship.
But, if we do that are we choosing the best for our friend?
If not, then are we really good friends?

Pleasing God should be our main goal in life.
That could mean, at times, we would have to correct our friends, even if it could hurt them, because we care for them.

But what should we really find in an Accountability Partner?

An Accountability partner should be God-fearing.
An accountability partner should love God so much that she wants to defend God from false beliefs or ignorance. Anger is a normal emotion, but we should not hate the person but should hate the sin.

Accountability partner should ALWAYS stand for the truth.
God is Truth, and an Accountability partner should always stand for the truth and should always be bold to correct wrong beliefs.

A common wrong belief is that it is impossible for righteous people to suffer, and that only sinners do. We should not be quick to judge other people's circumstances, because pain is not necessarily a punishment for some sin. Suffering is sometimes allowed by God for the righteous to protect against greater sin, for moral betterment and warning, and also, to promote greater faith and dependence on Him in all circumstances.

I am a work in progress, and I admit that just like Job, there are still some things that I do not know. It is important that someone would lovingly remind me if ever my actions are taking me farther from God's purpose in me.

Accountability partner should always seek God's will.

To be a better accountability partner for others, we should always strive to know God personally so that we could discern what is really a godly advice or counsel.

Accountability partner should bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
We should always be sure that the advice that we get from them are from the Holy Spirit. And the fruits of the Holy spirit is one way of checking if it is God who is working in them.

for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2:13

An Accountability partner should be gentle.

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently…Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:1-2).

We should not be condescending and judgmental to other people's flaws but be encouraging to one another. We should really get to know one person and understand the why instead of the what. Realizing that we all fall short of God's glorious standards will make us see others the way Jesus sees us.

As accountability partners, we also have to develop our self-control.
We must be quick to listen, and slow to speak. There are times we tend to speak more and correct as soon as we see a mistake without even listening.

"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care" — John C. Maxwell.

In the movie X-Men: First Class, Charles told Eric that his strongest source of power is the “balance point between rage and serenity."

We could hate the sin and tend to do wrong actions if we get empowered by our emotions, that is why it is important that we have self-control.

As accountability partner, we should always be connected and in-tune with God.

The "X men First Class" movie showed Magneto as a protagonist in the beginning, who later on became the best friend of Professor X, but when faced with the enemy, he went to drastic decisions without asking Professor X. This eventually killed the connection between them. They have the same goal, but Magneto ended up having his own personal motives. This lead to Magneto being an antagonist.

What should not be our basis for choosing our Accountability Partner?

Age should not be our basis for a person's wisdom, just as the length a person had been attending or serving in the church, is not a reliable basis, as well. Age does not define alignment with God.

I praise God that I have an accountability partner who is wise, who have Godly discernment and is inline with God's purpose in our lives.
