Rumors and Gossips

Rumors and Gossips

They have become filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are gossips. (Romans 1:29)

At one time or another, we have to admit that we are guilty of spreading rumors. It might start off as a burning report done quietly with just a few "close" friends, meant to ruin someone’s integrity or terminate a reputation.

Spreading gossip and rumors are an essential tool of the devil. Nothing hurts a church more than the spreading of false rumors and gossip.

Are you spreading gossip and rumors because of vengeance, jealousy, self-justification or vanity?

Are you secretly involved in this “secret” sin?

Are your friends suffering because of you passing along half-truths, rumors, and gossip?

You shall not give false witness against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16)
Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Never endanger your neighbor's life. (Leviticus 19:16)

Spreading rumors and information is wrong. It is an unhealthy activity that can unnecessarily bring about unjustified damage to someone and the Lord’s plan.

Refuse to be hearers of unedifying words. But if there are rumors that you can not escape, Deuteronomy 13:14 says “you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly.”

I pray that we all learn to treat others the way we need to be treated.

I understand that in this broken world that we live in, it is difficult.

But being aware that Our Sovereign God is always present, we can do it through Jesus Christ who strengthens us.
