How to Escape Temptation

It is usually when we walk with God and trust in His provision that temptations get to us.

I know that based on my own personal experiences.

Despite these temptations, I am glad to tell you that we do not have any reason to fear because God has always been faithful in providing a way for me to escape temptations.

God will not allow any temptations in your life without any way of escape, unless, you are deliberately unashamed and careless.

CAUTION: Be very careful in seeking unbiblical solutions to temptations as these solutions, more often than not, only fixes the immediate symptom without fixing the real problem.

These are helpful in dealing with immediate desires if you are focused on short term goals without any consideration of the bigger picture. However, these kind of solutions will only send you to a cycle of fixing immediate problems causing you to lose sight of the bigger picture.

How to Fight Temptations the Biblical Way

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.(Psalms 119:45)

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessings, even life forevermore. (Psalms 133)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. (Proverbs 3:5-7)

There is a way that appears to be right,   but in the end it leads to death. (Proverbs 14:12)

"Escape” comes from the Greek word ekbasin which literally means “a way out.” This also means “issue, result, outcome.”

Godly character is the result of a close walk with God. This is the fruit of men who have spent their life in the Word, the fruit of spiritual maturity.

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” —Winston Churchill

1. Conduct yourself under it and make it a habit.

Avoiding temptations is not just a one-time thing. It is not just some sudden deliverance, where you are automatically removed from temptation, but it is having the ability to bear up under it. It is having the capacity to handle temptations without sinning by the power of God.

2. Abide in the principles of His Word on a daily basis.

The more you grow spiritually and the closer your walk with the Lord, the greater your ability to handle testings or temptations as long as you give careful attention to your walk.

3. Flee from temptations.

Be able to handle temptation by being responsible enough, to flee from it.

God gives you a way of escape so that you can endure the temptation or testing without falling. God, by His grace through the provision of fellowship with Him, gives you the capacity to handle temptation and it is your responsibility to responsibly apply  that into your life.
