How to be Content

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Are you content?

When we are content, we can say that We are a HUNDRED PERCENT willing to accept whatever God wants to throw our way - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Contentment is the joyful submission to God's will in your life.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  (1 Timothy 6-9)

Contentment is not laziness nor complacency.

Where is the Balance between Contentment and Complacency?

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.(1 Timothy 6:10)

This "love of money" Bible verse is the most misquoted verse in the Bible.

Money is not evil. Money is neutral. Money can be used to bless people.
Money is an instrument.
But don't allow money to master you, you must master money.
Money becomes evil when it comes to master you.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! (
Philippians 2:5-8)

Jesus wanted the cup of suffering taken away from Him (Matthew 26:39), but He went all the way to death to prove his TRUST to the Father's plans.

To be content is Learned
Learn to be satisfied in God's classroom of life. 

Release what you want in life, and find gratification.

LET GO and Let God.

To have a full relationship with God, the key is: CONTENTMENT.

Paul found contentment in Christ, even when he was shipwrecked, beaten and jailed for the sake of Christ.

How to be Content

1. Release your will
2. Die to your desires
3. Live for Christ

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21

Let us always practice removing our focus on ourselves, that we may be able to see the blessings of God in our lives.

It is good to have goals, but goals could disappoint us if we leave God out of them. 
There is no point in making plans as though God does not exist because the future is in His hands. 
The beginning of good planning is to ask:
 "What would i like to be doing 10 years from now? 
One year from now? 
How will i react if God steps in and rearranges my plans?". 

We can plan ahead but we must hold on to our plans loosely.

If we put God's desires at the center of our planning, he will never disappoint us. (James 4:13-16)

Integrity is about determining to walk the right path. It is really hard to have integrity on our own... That's why we ask for God's help.

Integrity is about saying NO.
It is refusing to pursue low and vulgar things.

Integrity is what happens in our home where no one else sees, but our own heart certainly knows.

Low and vulgar things is not just pornography or the likes, but also speaking cruel and profane words, letting our anger burn out of control and gossiping.

God made us to look to Him for so much more than this. 

The Lord on high is mighty. Psalm 93:4

Integrity is choosing to ask for God's help to say no. It is recognizing that without God's help we don't have the power to say no, but with His help, we have a new power to say Yes to High and mighty things. 

Integrity is making up our minds in advance to do the right things.

You do not  wake up one morning a bad person. It happens by a thousand tiny surrenders of self-respect to self-interest. - Robert Brault

I know my God that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. 1 Chronicles 29:17

One good way to decide in advance is to tell someone else what you're planning to do.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

But the worries of life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making if unfruitful. Mark 4:19

Worldly worries, the false sense of security brought on by prosperity, and the desire for things plague us today...It is just so easy for our daily routines to become overcrowded...

Unfortunately, A life packed with worldly pursuits deafens us to God's word.

It is necessary for us to be free so we can hear God when He speaks.

Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop - 30, 60 or even a hundred times what was sown - strive be good in every areas of our lives at all times.

The key to Christian living is a thirst and hunger for God. And one of the main reasons people do not understand or experience the sovereignty of grace and the way it works through the awakening of sovereign joy is that their hunger and thirst for God is so small. John Piper

Does Money Make you Mean?

Think about playing a game of Monopoly, except in this game, that combination of skill, talent and luck that help earn you success in games, as in life, has been rendered irrelevant, because this game's been rigged, and you've got the upper hand.

You've got more money, more opportunities to move around the board, and more access to resources.

And as you think about that experience, I want you to ask yourself:

How might that experience of being a privileged player in a rigged game change the way that you think about yourself and regard that other player?

PP of Tedtalk ran a study on the U.C. Berkeley campus to look at exactly that question.

They brought in more than 100 pairs of strangers into the lab, and with the flip of a coin randomly assigned one of the two to be a rich player in a rigged game - 

1. They got two times as much money.
2. When they passed Go, they collected twice the salary.
3. They got to roll both dice instead of one, so they got to move around the board a lot more.

Over the course of 15 minutes, they watched through hidden cameras what happened.

Here is a little bit of what they saw. 

Rich Player: How many 500s did you have?
Poor Player: Just one.

And as the game went on, one of the really interesting and dramatic patterns that they observed begin to emerge was that:

Rich players actually started to 
1. become ruder toward the other person
2. less and less sensitive to the plight of those poor, poor players
3. more likely to showcase how well they're doing - more and more demonstrative of their material success.

Rich Player: I have money for everything.
Poor Player: How much is that?

Rich Player: You owe me 24 dollars. You're going to lose all your money soon. I'll buy it. I have so much money. I have so much money, it takes me forever.

Rich Player 2: I'm going to buy out this whole board.

Rich Player 3: You're going to run out of money soon. I'm pretty much untouchable at this point.

What's really, really interesting, is that at the end of the 15 minutes, they asked the players to talk about their experience during the game. 

The rich players talked about why they had inevitably won in this rigged game of Monopoly:

1. They talked about what they'd done to buy those different properties and earn their success in the game
2. They became far less attuned to all those different features of the situation (including that flip of a coin that had randomly gotten them into that privileged position in the first place.)

It's a really, really incredible insight into how the mind makes sense of advantage.

Monopoly can be used as a metaphor for understanding society and its hierarchical structure - Some people have a lot of wealth and a lot of status, and a lot of people don't - they have a lot less wealth and a lot less status and a lot less access to valued resources.

Effects of these kinds of hierarchies 

What they have found across dozens of studies and thousands of participants is that:

A a person's levels of wealth increase, their feelings of compassion and empathy go down, and their feelings of entitlement, of deservingness, and their ideology of self-interest increases. 

In surveys, they found that:
Wealthier individuals who are more likely to moralize greed being good, and that the pursuit of self-interest is favorable and moral. 

Why should we care about those implications, and end with what might be done?

Personally for me, money wealth or any advantage, should not affect anyone's character.

Your character is who you are, whether you are rich or poor.
Your character is who you are whether you are happy or suffering....

It is the little choices that we make, that makes us who we are....

By giving up our own rights to serve others, we will one day receive what God has in store for us.

The Wife of Noble Character

A wife of noble character who can find?

She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

A Woman's Worth

Worth is defined by the eye of the beholder.

Worth can be debated or overlooked.

When a woman crosses puberty, something changes in her emotionally and mentally.

A woman will view her self-worth in three things:

1. How she views herself

2. How others view her
3. How God views you

Satan created a strategy for a woman to lose her worth.
Satan will try to remove out of the equation how God views you...

And once it happens, the woman will try to pursue a life that will try to validate herself

A woman who is worth everything is worth everything to God - no matter what happened in your life. A Woman's worth is defined by her relationship with God.

A woman will only be developed by God alone.

Are you defining yourself in anything and everything?

Then you will be part of the statistics of Woman in and out of scandals, in and out of situations and in and out of relationships... deteriorating... living a life bitter and bruised... 

You are pursued by a loving God...
You don't have to find Him...because He found you...
God pursues you... that's where your significance comes from...

God can develop your worth... but one thing that you have to do is to TRUST Him.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

A Proverbs 31 woman is not a perfect woman... who is exuding from her perfection.. but a woman who is anchored in God. Her call, beauty and perfection is based on what He did and who He is.

May you find your significance and worth in God... Trust that He can make you whole...

This is scary: You can tame a tiger, but you can't tame a tongue - it's never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. 

Curses and blessings out of the same mouth! A spring doesn't gush fresh water one day and brackish the next, does it? 

Apple trees don't bear strawberries, do they? Raspberry bushes don't bear apples, do they? You're not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you? 

Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here's what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It's the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. 

Mean-spirited ambition isn't wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn't wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn't wisdom. It's the furthest thing from wisdom - it's animal cunning, devilish conniving. 

Whenever you're trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others' throats. 

Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. 

It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced.
